Abstract

Annotation. This article explores the concept and history of diplomatic
immunity, focusing on its evolution and the legal frameworks that support it. It
discusses the various immunities provided to diplomatic personnel, buildings, and
communications, emphasizing the challenges posed by modern technologies and
geopolitical tensions. The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961) and
subsequent treaties are analyzed for their roles in shaping diplomatic norms. The paper
also addresses contemporary challenges such as cybersecurity, terrorism, and the abuse
of diplomatic privileges, highlighting the need for a balance between diplomatic
immunity and national security concerns.
